The original cast iron gates from Wirral Childrens' Hospital.
The hospital was originally opened in 1883 on Woodchurch Road, Birkenhead and was designed by architect John E Clarke. It was supported by voluntary subscriptions until the formation of the NHS in 1948, and was closed in 1982.
The gates are unique, of exceptional quality and are beautifully detailed as can be seen on the photographs.
They are cast iron with brass flowers (underneath the paint).
There are a few minor breakages and some flowers are missing (apparently stolen by the children!), but these could easily be replaced or just left as they are. Otherwise they are in amazing condition.
We have a local blacksmith who is able to hang these gates if required.
