Designing An Eco-Friendly Garden This Year?

You may think that having a garden is making you ‘green’ already but when people design gardens, they often take the easy option and go to the local DIY store for things like hard landscaping, garden ornaments and other additions. Many of these garden products can just as easily be found at the reclamation yard and this is just one of the ways you can plan an eco-friendly garden.

Water can be surprisingly expensive and anyone who has experienced a hosepipe ban will remember that water supplies cannot be taken for granted even in the UK where we get more than our fair share of rain. A water butt or barrel can be used to collect rainwater which will not only reduce your reliance on water from the pipes but it will also be better for the garden.

When you are designing a garden, it is also important to consider wildlife. Watching the birds can be a great pleasure and those birds will need to be encouraged to come and visit. So having a healthy eco system which includes a ready supply of insect food should be included in the planning.

When it comes to materials in your garden, you will find plenty at the reclamation yard. We stock anything from reclaimed railway sleepers to patio stones and if you want to add a bit of personality, garden statues and antique bird baths.
